THE "UNIQUE" CHARTER FORMULA

Chartering a yacht like Sylphe guarantees an experience only available to a few. Unlike the other classic sail yachts, Sylphe solely has a skipper onboard. So no complete crew, who takes away all the fun of sailing the boat, or intrudes on your privacy. The skipper just makes sure that you can focus on the bright sight of life, sailing a historic yacht yourselves and enjoying the holiday with your beloved ones...as if it was your own.

In 1999 we created this special charter formula, for those who -probably- would like to own a yacht like this, but do not want (rightfully so!!) the hassle and the burden of having the yacht the whole year around, its maintenance, its varnishing, its fees and costs. By chartering Sylphe you take advantage of only the good side of such a yacht: sun, sail, wind and cruise in the most beautiful areas of the Mediterranean Sea. Just board the yacht and take advantage from that moment onward.......and enjoy the dolphins accompanying you on your voyage.

And yes, you are therefore more than invited to take over with hoisting the sails, setting a course, holding the helm, etc. The yacht belongs to you during your stay onboard. The experience and feedback from customers over the last 9 years has shown that this formula works (see guestbook section). Deciding where to sail to, organizing the BBQ, sleeping in or making a night sail, it is all up to you to decide and undertake. You can take over completely from the skipper, if you desire so. And don't be intimidated by the idea of sailing such a classic, the skipper is always there to help you out, so no extended experience needed.

Sylphe is a very well kept classic yacht, with large parts of the yacht still in original form and lay-out, with all the charms of the old days. No furling sails, no self tailing winches, no carbon or fiberglass, etc. During her restoration in 1999 she was given back her previous glory and glamour. Sylphe was uniquely designed for the Mediterranean climate and weather and that shows: Her enormous flush-deck gives the feeling of space and safety. Easy to walk forward to change a sail; relaxing and sunbathing is a must on the foredeck. Her wooden mast of 23 meters is still equipped with the original winches for hoisting the sails, however one electric winch was added for easy-going and making short-handed sailing possible. Together with her modern navigation instruments, easy deck lay-out and length overall, she can still be sailed by the skipper single-handedly, if need be. Sylphe will sail the eastern part of the Mediterenean Sea, in spring going up to Montenegro and Croatia and during the summer going back to Greece and finishing the season in the warm waters of Turkey. Sylphe is not too keen on those busy and crowded areas, so you will not likely find Sylphe in France, Corsica and all those "fancy" but rather crowded places, as we prefer the following

The Skipper

Only Roland, the skipper, is onboard to guarantee safety and comfort. Willing to give some advice, help a hand or be discretely in the background if you desire so. Especially trained and selected to give you the right feeling of freedom and relaxation. But ultimately he is responsible for the safety of you, your guests and the vessel. Several years of experience with chartering, harbors and winds, through and through familiar with the yacht and its possibilities, easily socializing with guests and fluent in four languages.

CHARTER equipment

Since Sylphe features as a all-year-around home for Roland, the yacht comes with every possible item onboard and fitted out  very complete. All in style; from the Blake Toilet, complete safety equipment, over complete galley, water maker, and plenty of gadgets to play with. Equipped for your comfort!!!!

• Mastercabin with a large full size bed.
• Guestcabin with two bunkbeds.
  
• Spacious saloon with starboard settee, and to port a 5 person dining table. (possibility to sleep 2).
  
• Complete galley with Force 10 oven, grill, 3 burner stove. Large refrigerator. Shower with hot and cold running water. Blake toilet. Marble topsides in galley and toilet.
• Navigation station with Brooks & Gatehouse instruments; Log-, (Wind-)Speed and Depthmeters. Geonav Chartplotter, Geonav GPS, Shipmate VHF, Icom SSB, portable VHF, Comnav Autopilot, 2 times backup GPS, all traditional paper charts (British Admirality, SHOM, Imray or Turkish Hydrographic Office), All Pilot Books, etc.
• Capelli RIB-dinghy with 15 HP Yamaha outboard engine.
• Comfortable cockpit with tailormade cushions, dinner table for 6, sundeck, sun awnings to cover the complete yacht (not only the cockpit), swimming platform, snorkeling gear, on-deck rinse-off shower for after swimming.
  
• Force 10 gaz Barbeque on aft deck
• 24-Volt main system, 220 Volt outlets in kitchen, toilet and saloon (computer connection, hairdryer, portable telephone charging, etc), GSM, e-mail.
• 300 liters of diesel for the engine, 400 liters of watertank capacity with Schenker Watermaker producing 60 l/h, Sigmarine cabinheater (for the colder days), all there to extend our autonomy and enlarge our independence from ports.
• Safety equipment: life raft, lifelines, inflatables, VHF- and SSB-radio, fire extinguishers, first aid kit, etc
